Day 5- Work & Tours

Today was easily one of the best days of my life ever. It began with an early wake up call followed by breakfast. After breakfast, since we were way ahead of schedule we went on a couple mile hike to check out the neighborhood..which is all up hill. All the houses varied and it was awesome to see how nice everyone was and how willing they were to show their home. Some people work as police officers, others as maids, and some as customs officials. Some of the VIEWS people have in their back yards are remarkable. You can see miles of hills, fruit trees, volcanoes, and lakes. We walked along dirt roads and crossed path's with oxen. Ugh. It's so sad to see all the things I am seeing every day but I am thankful for the opportunity to expand my knowledge on such sad situations. For lunch we had grilled cheese... yum. After lunch it was time to start work for the day and we finished putting up half the walls. I feel like I was a slacker today though. While I did do some drilling and sawing and measuring, I spent the majority of the day getting to know the kids better. I am in love and want to adopt every single one. They all have the most beautiful eyes, kindest hearts, and are so intelligent. I played soccer with the twins, Luisa y José Luís for the longest time. I then got to know a super cute toddler, Haiti. She is so precious. Later, I chatted up the 16 year old, Jessica for forever! I taught her english with another girl, Bridget. We got a notebook out and began writing English words next to Spanish words so we could teach her English and she could teach us Spanish! Even the younger kids would chime in wanting to learn! Jessica is brilliant. She told Bridget and I her dream is to come to Estados Unidos to learn but she has no dinero. So upsetting. I seriously do not know how I am ever going to say goodbye to these 10 kids and the neighbor cousins. I am already getting sad about it. It's dinner time. And I need to wash all this dirt off me. And then we are going out for helados (ice cream). Hasta luego.
