Today was amazing! We woke up at 5:40 am for a day of cultural experience! To begin the day, I fed our resort's pet spider monkey, Kiko! I want one. They are so precious! Then, following breakfast we were off.
We first went on a canopy tour through the hills. On this tour we went on 3 different zip lines. For the second one I went upside down and backwards! It was so so so fun!
After the canopy tour we went into El Centro to go to the street vendors and see everyday Nica life. We also went to an authentic Nicaraguan restaurant for some food.
After lunch on our way to stop #3 we stopped by the side of the road to get coconuts, mangos, and oranges. I even tried coconut water! The vendors used machetes to chop the coconuts and put a straw in! Not too bad!
Stop #3 consisted of going to La Playa and renting a boat! This lake is supposedly the 2nd largest lake in the world! The boat tour was so unique because we went to little "islands" where there are super cute, really colorful homes! One of the islands consisted of spider monkeys only! We bought sugar nuts before we got on the boat to feed to them since they all jump on the boats when you stop by! After leaving the lake, we were all dead tired, but our guides pulled over later and showed us an old castle that was built in 1749, this castle held all of Grenada's artillery. It was super cool.
Never thought our "free day" would consist of so much but it was awesome! It was so so cool seeing the daily life of Nica's!
On average, bikes carry 3 people by the way.
Did you know the Nica currency (chords) are 25-1 US dollar? Aka cheapppppp.
Work begins tomorrow! Wish us luck!
